Lenten Studies

Season Four of The Chosen focuses on Jesus bearing the weight of His mission as opposition mounts, culminating in the lead-up to Jerusalem with the looming shadow of the cross, exploring themes of death, forgiveness, and radical love amidst internal disciple struggles and rising external threats from religious leaders. This study will meet on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. for eight weeks beginning February 10 in the Conference Room. Phoebe McCormick is the facilitator. It is best to have seen the first three seasons of The Chosen to study the fourth season. However, videos for Seasons 1-3 can be checked out from the Adult Curriculum Library. They are great for binge watching!

The Progressive Class will begin a Lenten study on Monday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fireside Room. Hear ye, hear ye! In collaboration with the stewards of Madeleine L’Engle’s legacy, SALT has designed a new 40-day devotional based on L’Engle’s classic memoir, A Circle of Quiet. “Life Stories: A 40-Day Devotional on Madeleine L’Engle’s A Circle of Quiet” comes complete with biblical passages, reflections, writing prompts, activities, and extended excerpts from A Circle of Quiet printed (by permission) directly into the devotional. It's perfect for the 40 days of Lent – or for any other seven-week span, any time of year. Step by step, we’ll set out on a pilgrimage with Madeleine as our guide, following her wisdom and life story as a way to inspire our own.

How do we walk with Christ—daily follow him, grow in him, and faithfully serve him? In the Gospels, Jesus modeled for us the Christian spiritual life. The apostles taught it in their writings. And the Church has, through the last 2,000 years, sought to pursue this Christian spiritual life. In The Walk, Adam Hamilton focuses on five essential spiritual practices that are rooted in Jesus’ own walk with God and taught throughout the New Testament. Each of these practices is intended as part of our daily walk with Christ while also being an essential part of growing together in the church. In each chapter, Hamilton explores one of these practices, its New Testament foundation, and what it looks like to pursue this practice daily in our personal life and together in the life of the church. Deepen your walk with Christ as we explore the five essential practices of worship, study, serving, giving, and bearing witness to our faith. Our Lenten Study will begin on Wednesday, February 25, at 2:00 PM. Come join us!
